Southwest Missouri Amateur Radio Club

Ham Radio Boot Camp is here!

2 min read

One of the most asked questions we get (besides advice on how to pass the test) is “what do i do now that i have my license?” Well, we have the answers!

You just got your Technician class license, you’ve been looking at Baofengs, and you keep hearing about HF. With all the different things you can do with amateur radio, where in the world do you start? Even if you knew you wanted to work HF, how do you get on? All good questions! And often times, there are about 100 correct answers.

This program is designed for the Technician class licensee (or those wanting a refresher course) who wants to know what all is out there, how to do it, and where to get the equipment. We’ll also go over some basics such as “which coax do I use” and “why this radio over that radio” and “how do I make an antenna, I don’t even have any trees to hang one with!”

Date: Saturday, November 7th, 2020

Time: 1PM to 5PM

Location: 4094 N Farm Road 157, Springfield, MO 65803

Lunch: Since we start after Lunch, we will not be providing it, but you may bring your own. However, we will have plenty of drinks and snacks. Dinner will be held during the fall Fire and Frequencies event that starts at 6pm, right after the boot camp!

What to bring: Bring a pad and pen for notes, or a laptop if you chose. Internet will be available if needed. This is not a Tech Day event, so we will not be doing radio repairs or programming at this event. We will also not be showing how to program radios for this event, it is more of a “beyond the handheld” event.

Need additional details? Reach out to us on our “Contact Us” page at the top. We would love to know if you are planning to join us. Please go to our Facebook Events Page and let us know.

REMEMBER: Since this is a club event, we want to do our best to follow CDC recommended guidelines. Although this location is not in the city limits of Springfield, masks are still encouraged as well as social distancing.

Due to the popular demand for this event, and the need for social distancing and space, we’re limiting this first boot camp to 10 people. Please sign up below to reserve your spot!
