Operators needed across SW MO Springfield area!

Springfield, MO Route 66 on the air

It is nearing that time again – The Route 66 On The Air
Cliff and I will be getting stations lined up to take part. All they have to do is E Mail us with their call and operating time.

The best part of this fun event is that you set your own time. Just keep a log of the time, the stations worked and the frequency.
Hopefully, we can put Springfield up in the top position this year. Just need more operators to help so please let Cliff and I know if you are interested in operating this year. It runs for a week, so you can pick your time and place and operate at your leisure!

Send an email if you are interested in operating this year!

Thanks so much for you help

Good evening everyone, It’s again that time of year to start planning for our involvement in the Tour de Bass bicycle ride. This year the ride will be on Sunday, October 9, 2016

We have about 2/3 of the people needed to fully staff the Tour de Bass. Here are the positions we still need volunteers for:

Strafford Mercy Clinic Rest Stop 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Republic Mercy Clinic Rest Stop 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (Lunch stop catered by Heady’s BBQ)
SAG 1 7:30 a.m. to noon
SAG 4 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
SWEEP 12 Shift begins at 8:45 a.m. – ride starts at 9:00 a.m.
SWEEP 33 Shift begins at 9:15 a.m. – ride starts at 9:30 a.m.
SWEEP 41 Shift begins at 9:15 a.m. – ride starts at 9:30 a.m.
SWEEP 64 Shift begins at 7:15 a.m. – ride starts at 7:30 a.m.
SWEEP 100 Shift begins at 7:15 a.m. – ride starts at 7:30 a.m.
Please let me know ASAP so I can get the T-shirt orders in with the correct sizes. Also – if you are a SWEEP or SAG and do NOT have an APRS capable radio, we do have (2) available to borrow as stand alone units. They are on a fist come / first served status, courtesy of KB0YDU. It is a pelican case with a magnet mount, completely water tight with radio and battery inside and an NMO mount for a 1/4 wave antenna, neat units!
If you have any questions, please call my cell number below.
Thanks to everyone that has already volunteered!

Looking to provide communications for the 2016 Dogwood Canyon Trail Run onSunday, October 16th. This event is held near Lampe, MO in Stone County at the Dogwood Canyon Nature Park. We will need (12) total volunteers so that we can split the event up into a morning shift and an afternoon shift. The morning shift will run from 6:30 a.m. until 12:30and the afternoon shift from 12:00 until 5:30 p.m. We need the following spots to commit to the event

(3) rest stops
(2) supply trucks
(2) Net Control operators
Net Control will be run out of the club’s communications trailer, and we will likely deploy a portable repeater system for the event. Rest stops do NOT have commercial power, so if you want to operate a rest stop you will need a battery with your radio, a small generator, or perhaps an HT with some type of base station antenna (J-Pole, etc.).

I do not have the exact locations of the rest stops yet – it may be that all that will be needed is an HT and spare battery(s). At the rest stops, you will be paired with other non-hams – we will be communicating supply needs at the rest stops and allowing supply trucks to communicate with NCS and rest stops.
This is a neat event – I need to have commitments from 12 people that want to do this before I will commit amateur radio to the event.

If you have questions, or would like to volunteer, let me know soon.
Thanks,
James Adkins, KB0NHX

Our third annual NARCFEST will be the FIRST weekend in November. We hope you are saving November 5, the date of the 2016 Nixa Amateur Radio Club Hamfest. It really isn’t that far away. It will be at the same location, Nixa Event Center. We’ll have great forum speakers.

Our commercial vendors and food caterer are returning. Come early and hungry. We’ll have testing, so encourage your friends to come get their tickets/upgrades. Of course, we’ll have door prizes, too.
This year we are focusing on addressing topics for new hams and new ideas for veteran hams. People new to the hobby will find presentations and helpful experienced operators to answer questions and give advice. Even if you have many years in the hobby, you are likely to find some new ideas in the forums, as well. SO – if you know anyone who might be interested in being part of our hobby, be sure to bring them along. We’ll have our club communications trailer in operation, so they can try being part of a live QSO.

Want a Table to sell some of your precious used gear? We suggest you reserve early. See the flyer below for reservation information and pertinent details. REMINDER: If you reserve a table, PLEASE give us an email address so we can confirm the reservation. THANKS and 73’s.
