SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI Birthplace of RT 66

You are invited to be a part part of the 15th year that this great Amateur Radio special event has been on the air.

It is the 86th Anniversary of America’s Mother Road and we are very excited that Springfield, Mo. has finally been included in the 21 stations that will operate starting Sept. 6 through Sept 14 that gives amateur radio operators a fun way to “Relive the Ride.” They also can relive their own memories of Route 66, and get to celebrate the highway’s rich history in making the U.S. what it is today. You will be receiving E mails explaining the details of the exciting “kick off” on Friday, Sept. 5 at the new Rt. 66 Historic Park on West College street and how you will be able to join the week of Amateur Radio excitement from your own station.

In the meantime, please visit W6JBT.org for operating frequencies and operating procedures.

Keep in mind that it took several years to convince the power at be that Springfield should certainly be a part of this great Rt 66. event so we must make a successful showing. Several of the other Missouri operations worked nearly 4,000 contacts last year. We know that Springfield can do better !

You can operate from your own home or mobile station. We will be sending you the information about the frequencies and operating conditions in the next few days. In the meantime, please visit the home page at W6JBT.org for more details. We will be setting up a Field Day type site at the new Historic Route 66 park located on East College street a few blocks west of the square and just east of Kansas Expressway on Friday Sept. 5th . We are doing this a day before to check the system but the main focus is for the local media (radio, TV, Newspapers) to be invited at 11:00 am to help increase the awareness of Amateur Radio in Springfield. We invite each of you to help operate from that site on Friday for a few hours as well as at the start of the event on Saturday. The Official start time for the Route 66 On The Air will be 00:00 Zulu. Let’s make a huge showing to the world from the Birthplace of Route 66. You can take part from your home station. All you have to do is get out that log book and get on the air. Please verify that you will be a part of this great event by returning an E Mail to me info@heilsound.com.

You can always feel free to E Mail and concerns or questions.
Stay tuned.
