Southwest Missouri Amateur Radio Club

June 23rd to 24th is the Annual ARRL Field Day. We had a pretty good location last year at the Probst farm, and we have a standing invitation to return. As part of our beginning prep for Field Day, the leadership of the Southwest Missouri Amateur Radio Club (SMARC) would like to know where the club would like to have Field Day?

As mentioned we have a standing invitation to return to the Probst farm, and we had a great time there last year. It's on a higher elevation, is away from sources of RFI, and the band conditions were much quieter there than we have had in the past at the Red Cross. It is slightly less accessible, but we can provide address, and maps to get to the location. If my memory serves me right, it's not that far off MO State HWY 13, near Willard, MO.

The Repperts, Jeff & Judith, have offered their home in Miller, MO if the club would seek a different location. There home is also a good & quite location to work radio from as well. Also it is a little bit off MO State Hwy 39, just north of Miller. It is pretty easy to find though, and if you've ever been to the club picnic in the last several years, this is the same location it is held at.

Another person at the April meeting also offered his home as a location, just off of FF Hwy I believe. I'm sorry that I do not have further details, I will get them, and then update this.

So we would like to hear what your input for our Field Day location. Do we return to the Probst Farm, or try a different location? Again I am sorry, but Facebook seems to only allow me to have 2 options. In the past polls allowed more options than 2, and allowed for other to add more options after it was posted. However it wouldn't allow me to do either. So I will simply have the Probst Farm, or another location. If you vote for another location, and have one in mind, or wish to volunteer on, please leave that information in a comment below.

I would like to take this time to thank once again Doneau Probst, and John Willard-Probst for allowing us into the home last year, and on very, very short notice! They were amazing hosts, and we here at SMARC thank you very much!!

Happy voting!

Antenna Build

The Southwest Missouri Amateur Radio Club (SMARC) is wanting to do an antenna build. This would likely be at the July meeting, but may possible occur at Field Day. We traditionally use the 2 Meeting before Field Day ( May & June) to prepare/discuss Field Day.

We would like to know what kind of antennas would you like to make? Traditionally we have done roll up J-Poles, Tape Measure Beams, or both. We have in years past also made Copper J-Poles, and Dipole antennas. The club usually provides some materials, depending on the type of antenna you want to build. On the roll up J-Poles the club usually provides all the materials, just let us know what type of connector you want for the end of the coax. Tape measures beam you would need to provide the PVC pipe, and a tape measure. The club provides the rest, again let us know what connector you want.

If you have your own wire strippers, side cutters, soldering iron, and solder, you are more than welcome to bring them, however we will have cutting devices, as well as soldering irons/solder on hand for everyone to use! So we just need to know what type of antennas you'd like to make, and we will prepare accordingly! Please vote below. If you have a comment, or suggestion, we'd love to hear them. Please leave them below as well. Sorry for the use of only 2 question options, but Facebook seems to not want to allow me to enter more than 2 answers, even though I know this has been an option in the past. If you need to leave a more detailed answer, please vote, then leave a comment below.

Thanks!

I am looking to add a DX/Contest quality radio to my station. The two radios I am interested in are: (1) Yaesu FTdx-3000 and (2) Yaesu FT-1000mp Mark V. If you have either of these radios and ready to sell or know someone who does, please respond here or email me at ke0kz1@charter.net. Radio should be in very good to excellent condition in a non-smoking environment. Not interested in a project or trades. One alternative to the Yaesu radios would be the Flex 5000a with 2nd receiver and ATU installed. Thanks, Larry, KEØKZ ... See MoreSee Less

I will not be at the Ham Radio testing at 3P.M. to act in my capacity as a VE. As we know we need a minimum of three VEs.

I'm still recovering from an illness of the past week. Good luck to those taking the test.
